Your Thanksgiving Meal in Calories

“Being healthy and fit isn’t a punishment.”
-Autumn Calabrese
Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Have you ever wondered how many calories you’ve consumed after your first helping? How about that second helping? If working out is not on the agenda that day, then maybe some smarter choices on the plate will help you stay away from the post-Turkey Day funk.
If you like to work out, check out my Turkey Day Survival Guide on the FB.
Here is a great infographic that breaks down the calories of some of your favorite Thanksgiving foods. This will help you keep track of the calories you’ve consumed, and some techniques to make better choices.
3 Ways to Battle the Holiday Bulge
Here are 3 ways that I battle the calories on one of my favorite holidays:
- Drink 20oz of water first. One of the best ways to “trick” your body into thinking that it’s full, is to just shut up and chug! I find that drinking 20oz about 15 min before it’s chow-time, has helped me tremendously!
- Go for the veggies first. Try and fill your plate with veggies first. You’ll put less “bad” (yet, oh-so delicious) foods on your plate if you can’t see the plate. I have a pretty good handle on controlling my portions. That skill was learned from the nutrition plans that came with my workout programs. I’d be happy to help you out with that if you’d like, just fill out this form, and let’s chat. If you’re just starting out, skip the dinner roll. Go straight for the green beans!
- Regular exercise…duh! Don’t starve yourself all day. I’ve found that regular exercise first thing when upon waking up sets me up for a great day. This has been my go-to jam since 2009. I also believe in the 80/20 Rule. That means eat clean-ish 80% of my meals; I look at Thanksgiving as my official “cheat day.” But, it doesn’t hurt to find a quick 15-30 min workout to do first thing in the AM to prep the body.
At the end of the day, it’s your time to spend with family and loved ones. Always be mindful of what you’re putting in your body. But remember…don’t sweat it too much!
